Abstract. In modern educational institutions, various types of additional education and creative development of children are increasingly developing – various circles, ensembles, studios. The most developed are the choreographic departments. Children’s stage dance carries a rich educational potential necessary for the internal and external harmony of the personality, its aesthetic development, the formation of artistic taste, imagination, creative imagination, etc.

The most important component of any dance is the stage costume. Stage costume is, first of all, a means of transforming the performer. The costume for children forms communication skills, develops social and personal qualities and creative abilities. A beautiful, spectacular costume that matches the image helps convey the idea and intention of the choreographer and makes the child feel comfortable in it.

One of the most important requirements in the development of a stage costume is its optimal cost, which, as a rule, is provided by the child’s parents. The options for the available stage clothes often do not meet the requirements of a particular dance, in which the performer can sometimes dress up in several costumes for performance in different images of the dance.

It is offered to reduce the cost of creating a stage costume due to the product multi-functionality, through the transformation of which, in dance movements, the transformation of one image into another is achieved. For this purpose, sketches of costume models for fairytale heroes have been developed.

The analysis of the available developments of stage costumes, including multifunctional ones, is given. The creative source for creating the proposed stage costumes has been analyzed and sketches of models of multifunctional stage costumes have been developed.

The results of a questionnaire survey and identification of consumer preferences in relation to stage costumes for children are presented. A survey of parents and children showed that this idea was perceived positively by them and supported by the head of the choreographic group.
The materials and methods for creating a transformable “caterpillar-butterfly” costume are described. Photos of the product are presented.
