However, the unique properties of chrome-tanned leather do not allow us to completely abandon the use of chromium compounds. A promising direction for reducing wastewater pollution with chromium salts is the development of combined tanning agents containing a smaller amount of chromium compounds. As part of the dissertation research, the combined tanning agents Cychrome (mixed) and Cychrome C (synthesized) were obtained using the mixture method and the method of reducing sodium bichromate in an acidic medium in the presence of zinc salts. Glucose was used as a reducing agent. The ratios of components in the synthesis of tanning agents were selected based on the results of a study of complex formation in solutions of chromium tanning agent and zinc salts, performed earlier. The resulting tanning agents were dried to a powder state and their solubility in water was determined. The authors studied the relationship between the technological features of zinc-chrome tanning and the properties of the resulting leathers, and implemented a technology for processing the bare skin with combined zinc-chrome tanning agents. Tests have shown that the welding temperature of the combined tanning semi-finished product is 92–96оC. The physical and mechanical properties of experimental samples were studied, which showed that the experimental samples differ slightly from each other and meet the requirements for leather for shoe uppers. Using relaxation spectroscopy, it was established that there are no significant differences in the spectra of samples obtained by tanning with combined tanning agents and a standard chrome tanning agent. The authors tested combined tanning agents under production conditions, which showed a lower content of chromium oxide in leather samples, and compliance of the welding temperature with the requirements for leather for shoe uppers.

Keywords: chromium tanning agent; zinc salts; complex heteronuclear compounds; relaxation spectroscopy; ion exchange chromatography; tanning technology; combined tanning agent

Novikov Ilya Evgenievich Russian State University named A.N.
