One of the main elements of a presentable appearance is comfortable clothes of modern design. But the garment industry still adheres to the medical model of disability. Most types of adaptive clothing produced by modern manufacturers are focused on a limited choice of styles, natural colors and shapes.

Special attention is paid in the article to the problems of choosing clothes faced by wheelchair users. The results of the survey of wheelchair users in the Omsk region are presented. It was revealed that the majority of respondents purchase adaptive clothing on marketplaces. The survey participants prefer products that are affordable, with convenient fasteners and additional elements that protect the areas of clothing in contact with a wheelchair from abrasion.

The design features of adaptive clothing for wheelchair users have been revealed. The main areas of change in the curvature of the body surface when changing the pose from standing to sitting position have been determined. These sections are relevant for wheelchair users and involve a special design form of clothing that differs from the traditional one. An analysis of promising areas in the field of adaptive clothing design is presented.

The main directions of improvement in the field of design of adaptive clothing in the man-clothes-wheelchair system are highlighted by the authors based on the results of marketing research and analysis of existing developments.

Keywords: people with disabilities; wheelchair users; adaptive clothes; requirements for adaptive clothes; questionnaire survey; features of constructive solutions; smart clothes

Shalmina Irina Ivanovna Omsk State Technical University, Omsk, Russia E-mail: i.shalmina@gmail.com ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7569-1921 RSCI: https://elibrary.ru/author_profile.asp?id=477032 Starovoitova Anastasia Alexandrovna Omsk State Technical University, Omsk, Russia E-mail: styra.ru@mail.ru ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1891-2679 RSCI: https://elibrary.ru/author_profile.asp?id=442372 Abstract.
