The authors present a comparative evaluation of key dimensional characteristics (height, bust girth, waist girth, hip girth), as well as secondary characteristics (maximum bust girth, under bust girth, and waistline height. Analysis of deviations (differences between non-contact and contact methods) revealed systematic errors in 3D scanning results. Specifically, the study observed: height underestimation (up to 5,9 cm difference) due to incorrect identification of the apex point; deviations in waist girth and waistline height measurements, unstable results for chest measurements (upper chest girth, maximum chest girth, under bust girth) with deviations reaching 11 cm.

The research demonstrates that 3D scanning accuracy depends on multiple factors: subject’s posture, accounting for hairstyle and clothing, preliminary marking of anthropometric landmarks, data processing algorithms.

To minimize errors, the authors propose standardizing the scanning procedure. The results emphasize the need for improving 3D scanning methodologies to enhance data reliability for applications in apparel design, ergonomics, and anthropometry. Despite advantages in speed and reproducibility, the technology requires further refinement of algorithms and measurement protocols.

Keywords: anthropometry; 3D scanning; body scan; contact measurement methods; non-contact measurement methods; body measurements; anthropometric data verification; comparative analysis

Churkina Alena Alexandrovna Russian State University named A.N.
