The relevance of the work is driven by the steady growth in the popularity of outdoor recreation and, consequently, the increasing consumer demands for functionality and performance characteristics of equipment. The research methodology includes theoretical analysis, comparative analysis, and systematisation of data from normative and technical documentation regulating the requirements for special-purpose and tourist clothing. The authors propose a classification of outdoor activities based on four criteria: operating environment, intensity of physical exertion measured in metabolic equivalents, terrain character, and temperature regime. For each type of activity, a comparative analysis of parameters determining the design features of clothing and requirements for selected materials has been carried out. General functional requirements are examined in detail: the three-layer concept subdivided into base, insulating, and protective layers, comparative characteristics of membrane fabrics, softshell, synthetic and natural insulation materials, as well as ergonomic and performance parameters regulated by current industry standards. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of breathability, waterproofness, and windproof properties of materials, which are critically important for maintaining the human thermal balance under conditions of variable physical exertion and adverse weather. The conclusion substantiates the impossibility of creating a universal model: differences in conditions and exertion intensity dictate the need for individual selection of materials and design solutions for each type of activity. The data systematised in the work and the formulated recommendations can serve as a practical basis for drafting technical specifications for the design of specialised outerwear tailored to specific operating conditions.

Keywords: clothing design; outerwear; outdoor recreation; hiking; mountaineering; three-layer system; membrane fabrics; insulation materials; technical specifications

Vinichenko Irina Vladimirovna Omsk State Technical University, Omsk, Russia E-mail: irvin61@mail.ru ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9031-9458 RSCI: https://elibrary.ru/author_profile.asp?id=565760 SCOPUS: https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.url?authorId=57215730905 Shchennikova Sofya Sergeevna Omsk State Technical University, Omsk, Russia E-mail: sonya.shchennikova@mail.ru RSCI: https://elibrary.ru/author_profile.asp?id=1353628 Abstract.
