In this period, the issue of self-identification of both individuals and groups of people who unite in communities and express common interests and views on different aspects of life becomes especially acute. Designers use object culture associated with the shift in the new socio cultural environment as a creative resource for the development of various projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The article deals with the relevance of the designer\u2019s approaches to ethnic sources as an effective tool for contemporary garment design. The reasons and prerequisites of interest in ethnic vectors in costume design are indicated in the article. The article provides a chronological order of the most significant periods in the fashion history when ethnic motifs became the main sources of inspiration for famous fashion houses. The characteristics of the periods contain detailed information about the reasons for changes in the socio-economic environment of the world, reflected in fashion, which became the starting point for the creative search for fashion designers of the twentieth and twenty first century. The article also considers how it was manifested in the new artistic approaches to the solutions within the areas form decoration and surface textiles. Article shapes major tasks and issues that take place in the designer\u2019s process of creating ethnic-based projects in the context or current global socio-cultural interaction specifics. The authors of the article highlight the names of fashion designers who, in their opinion, played a key role in the development of this trend.
