Abstract. The article, which is part of the dissertation work, examines the types and characteristics of knitted fabrics, silhouette solutions for insulated underwear products in order to select the optimal option for a set of underwear for regions with particularly cold climates. The subject of the study is insulated men’s sweatshirts and long johns produced by modern domestic clothing manufacturers as part of a system of clothing layers. The authors present the basic requirements for a set of thermal underwear for regions with particularly cold climates and present the main physical and hygienic properties of knitted linen fabrics for its manufacture: breathability, hygroscopicity, water absorption and others. The results of the study of sets of men’s underwear of the second layer for special and household purposes are systematized and presented in tabular form and in drawings in the form of diagrams according to the following parameters: by the frequency of occurrence of surface density in the studied sample of sets, by variants of their silhouette solutions, by the component composition of knitted fabrics, according to the composition of knitwear by types of fibers and their combinations, the design features of shoulder and waist products are also indicated; The dependence of the silhouette design of products on the fibrous composition of knitwear is shown. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, the article provides options for the most common sets of insulated underwear products and justifies the use of knitted fabrics based on their fibrous composition for the operating region with harsh climatic conditions. In conclusion, the authors gave recommendations on the choice of knitted fabrics and design solutions for shoulder and waist items of men’s thermal underwear, which are part of a set of tactical equipment for the northern regions.
