Abstract. Methodological solutions for the digital identification of color types of mink skins are substantiated, taking into account the indicators of their optical properties.

A system of instrumental assessment of the quality of mink skins of various color types in terms of color and gloss is proposed. An algorithm for multidimensional classification has been developed, which makes it possible to relate the complex of the indicators used with the typology of hair color of mink skins, which makes it possible to identify objects according to the principle of maximum similarity in several variables at the same time and, thereby, allows to unambiguously solve the problem of identifying color types. The classification accuracy by the discriminant analysis method was 97.07 %.

The methodological approach used can be considered as an addition or alternative to the classical expert assessment, since it excludes subjectivity and significantly increases the efficiency of interpretation of the examination results and the efficiency of decision-making at the stage of sorting or when selecting skins for a product.
