Evaluation of the level of functionality of materials for sports waterproof clothing

Abstract. The article is devoted to the assessment of the level of functionality of materials for waterproof clothing, new criteria, methods and means of their determination. The author shows a new approach to assessing the properties of materials as functions having a common area of definition limited by the range of operating conditions. The developed functional approach to the assessment of properties of materials for clothing is realized on the example of multifunctional complex textile materials for waterproof clothing, containing a polymer membrane impermeable to drip-liquid moisture but permeable to water vapor. The criteria of functionality of materials are characterized, the factors influencing them are described, the parameters determining the conditions of testing are shown and formulas for calculating the dynamic criterion of the level of waterproof function, reliability criterion and comfort criterion are proposed. The gradation of functionality levels of clothing materials and the method of building a model of the material ideally functioning in the given conditions, which allows to determine the conditions of testing and the parameters influencing the calculation of functionality criteria, are proposed. The evaluation of the level of functionality of materials for sports waterproof outfits selected organoleptically is carried out. It is established that one of seven selected materials has an average level of functionality, the other materials showed a low and zero level of functionality in the given conditions of operation of materials. The evaluation of materials functionality gives the opportunity to analyze the material properties as a function, manifested in a given range of climatic conditions under a given human activity, showing the level of human satisfaction with the useful response of materials to external influences in the process of operation of clothing made of them. The functionality criteria are easy to apply and interpret, provided with methodological and instrumental basis of the research and ready to be implemented in the practice of confectionation of clothing materials.
