Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of the possibilities of the art-analytical method in the design of modern fashion collections. As part of the study, the author analyzed the contemporary runway models and presented examples of imaginative decisions that are the result of analytical work and creative interpretation of the Renaissance heritage. The study of portrait painting from the 16th century revealed many points of contact and similarities between images from portraits and outfits created by designers of fashion brands.

The article reflects the directions in which the designer can work on the artistic rethinking of portrait art in order to achieve the main goal – the creation of an original and recognizable lineup of outfits and garments that meets the latest fashion trends: analysis of individual elements of the source for creativity, its details, properties and qualities, highlighting the most striking and characteristic features and transferring them to the object of creativity; analysis of individual elements and details of the individual’s apparel from the painting, most characteristic of the era and most closely related to current fashion trends.

The ideas of the creative directors of fashion brands are very diverse, making it possible to explore the nature of their rethinking of the source of inspiration. The results of the analysis of runway models and paintings of the Renaissance era presented by the author confirm the relevance of the use of historical costume, three-dimensional forms, color, figurative and composite solutions of portraits of the 16th century as the basis for designing clothes that differ in relevance and novelty.

The article is part of the author’s dissertation research on the relationship of Renaissance portraiture and modern fashion collections.
