Abstract. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) was used to study the effect of vibro-liquid leather dressing on the concentration of free radicals in the dermis of the skin. Mechanical low-frequency activation of liquid processing processes of leather and fur raw materials can lead to the formation of radicals. The concentration of free radicals can serve as a measure of the intensity of the mechanical impact on the macrostructure of collagen-containing substances. The residual amount of free radicals cannot be recombined due to steric difficulties and can serve as a measure of the disorder of the macromolecular structure of the collagen of the dermis of the skin, obtained due to previous processing. In order to study the formation of free radicals in the dermis of cattle hide and fur coat sheepskin in the process of dressing after various operations, EPR spectra of samples of skin and fur raw materials, semi-finished products and finished leather were obtained. The results of the study indicate the presence of radicals of various types in the dermis of the skin and the complex nature of their changes in the process of technological operations of leather and fur production. In order to study the effect of vibro-liquid treatment of leather raw materials, the singlet characteristics of the central part of the EPR spectrum of samples processed by vibro-liquid soaking and vibro-liquid liming, as well as untreated raw materials, were measured. The output parameter is the number of radicals in 100 AU of the dry matter of the sample Based on the results of the experiment, processed by group data processing, linear and nonlinear models were obtained to identify the dependence of the number of radicals on the input processing parameters and characteristics of the raw hide. The characteristics of the free radical signal of samples of leather raw materials in the process of processing at the preparatory operations of leather dressing depend on the conditions and technological parameters of their implementation. The conducted study allows us to conclude that the processes are extreme in vibro-liquid preparatory operations of leather and fur production. At the same time, there is a significant splitting of the structure of the dermis of the skin with the accompanying processes of mechanical destruction, which contribute to the formation of free radicals. The area of the minimum number of free radicals with a treatment duration of 12 minutes and a temperature of the treatment solution of 33°C is most suitable for vibro-liquid treatment.
