Abstract. The article presents the results of an anthropometric study of the hands of boxers in three weight categories, aimed at creating an empirical basis for the design of boxing gloves. As part of the research, the authors analyzed measurement techniques and selected a contact method using a flexible measuring tape to record linear and girth characteristics in a static position and when the hands are clenched into fists. The research was conducted by the authors at the Department of Leather Technology at the A.N. Kosygin Russian State University, with the participation of male athletes aged 18–35 from the Bogatyr Combat Center, located at 1 Lenin Square, Krasnoznamensk, Moscow Region. This approach is being developed as part of Polina Olegovna Knyazeva’s dissertation, «Justification and Development of Combat Sports Equipment Designs». The author presents the results of statistical analysis of the anthropometric information to create a database. This is due to the fact that systematized databases of anthropometric parameters of the hands of athletes of various weight categories will improve the process of designing sports equipment.
