Abstract. Personal protective equipment, special clothing and special footwear have a special role in maintaining the health of workers engaged in oil production. At the same time, products made of natural special leather are distinguished by an optimal combination of consumer and technological characteristics, due to the moisture and heat transfer properties of materials, they are able to provide an optimal microclimate for the underwear and shoe space. The paper proposes a technology for obtaining leather for special protective products intended for employees of oil producing enterprises. Sheepskin skins produced using this technology are distinguished by a combination of high strength, hygienic and protective characteristics, including resistance to aggressive environments. The technology for obtaining special clothing leathers includes through complex processing of leather semi-finished products with non-equilibrium low-temperature plasma and a solution of organosilicon compounds. When using the developed experimental leathers in the production of special kits, products were obtained that have a higher resistance to oil and oil products, organic solvents and aggressive environments, on average by 39–41 %. When studying the persistence of the protective characteristics of special products over time during trial operation, it was found that by the end of the eighth week, the obtained experimental products demonstrate a higher persistence of the protective characteristics when exposed to oil and oil products, organic solvents and aggressive environments, on average by 47–54 %. It has also been established that as a result of complex end-to-end processing according to the proposed technology, the resistance of the obtained materials to biodegradation increases, which is confirmed by tests according to the standard method for determining the sensitivity of microorganisms by the growth retardation parameter.
