Abstract. The mobility of molecular chains of collagen was studied by the method of nuclear magnetic resonance on protons of samples of the Achilles tendon of cattle. To study the nature of the mobility of molecular chains of collagen, a 65 % aqueous solution of tert-butyl alcohol was used as a plasticizer, having a phase transition temperature in the range from 5 to 10°C. Achilles tendon samples of three-year-old cattle weighing 0.3 g were used as samples containing collagen. Analysis of the data obtained shows that the half-width of the spectra of native and treated samples with an orientation coinciding with the orientation of the magnetic field changes slightly with decreasing temperature. The half-width of the spectra of native samples of the Achilles tendon of cattle, when oriented perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field, has a jump with decreasing temperature in the range from -1 to -7°C. The half-width of the spectra of cattle Achilles tendon samples treated with an aqueous solution of tert-butyl alcohol, when oriented perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field, along with a jump in the region from -1 to -7°C, has a local maximum at a temperature of +9°C. The data obtained indicate that the vibrations of the groups of collagen molecules have an orientational dependence. The results of the study by the method of nuclear magnetic resonance on protons made it possible to determine the order of magnitude of the frequency of the mobility of collagen segments, which is about 20 kHz. To clarify the acoustic properties of leather fabric, the change in the acoustic characteristics of a sheepskin coat during its dressing was studied. As an indicator of the acoustic properties of the skin tissue, the mechanical loss coefficient characterizing the absorption of energy was used. An analysis of the dependence obtained shows that in the frequency range from 0.9 to 178 Hz, there is no anomalous behavior of the characteristics of sheepskin leather fabric. The mechanical loss coefficient increases with increasing resonant frequency and decreases with increasing sample density, and the coefficient in the indicated frequency range changes insignificantly. Based on the results obtained, the frequency range of mechanical effects in the mechanochemical processes of leather and fur dressing is substantiated.
