Abstract. The article presents an analysis of the results of organoleptic tests of waterproof textile materials of various structures in the study of the influence of the percentage of moisture content of the material on the tactile sensation of dryness in humans. Based on the conducted research, a justification for the sign of through wetting of materials is given for the development of an electrochemical method for testing materials for clothing and footwear. The method is implemented using a hydrostatic device connected to a multimeter to measure the magnitude of the voltage that occurs as a result of wetting textile materials when exposed to hydrostatic pressure. A saline solution with stabilized specific electrical conductivity is used as a conductive liquid. The objects of the study are water-resistant materials containing textile layers and a polymer membrane in their structure, capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to hydrostatic pressure. The subject of the study is the human thermal sensation upon contact with the reverse side of materials saturated with moisture.

As a result of the work performed, the author found that, with the device design used in the experiment, a voltage of 12 V can be considered a sign of through-wetting. This value can be considered the threshold of human sensitivity in tactile assessment of the moisture content of materials in contact with the body.

Based on the obtained results, it becomes possible to develop new characteristics of the water-resistant properties of light industry materials, determined to assess their ability to create comfortable conditions in the space inside shoes or under clothing. Unlike existing ones, the identified sign of through-wetting was determined based on the results of organoleptic tests and characterizes the degree of moisture content of the material, clearly recognized by the human senses as the absence of dryness.
