Abstract. Fashion illustration has come a very long and thorny way, from engraving to modern illustration. Also, to understand the importance of fashion illustration as fine art, the article indicates the research of the authors whose topics affect the importance of its development. Of the authors can be identified: Aroutcheva D., Bezakova E., Mirgorodsky N., Chentsova M., Lukasenko E., Churilino N. Signs, symbols and images are used extensively in contemporary fashion illustrations. In the fashion illustration, signs can be considered all kinds of inscriptions, signatures, logos of fashion houses, the image in the fashion illustration can be considered an ideal that has developed in the artist’s head, which appeared as a result of personal aesthetic preferences, analysis of fashion trends. Symbols in the image, which is created in a fashionable illustration, can be different in meaning. Images, symbols, and signs can have different semantics, depending on the context in which they are depicted.
The article deals with the signs that were used in modern fashion illustrations (2013–2017). According to the results of the study, the most common signs are: phrases used in fashion illustrations, as well as signatures. One leading trend in the use of signs in fashion illustration cannot be identified, as illustrations are very diverse and relevant.
