Abstract. Ecodesign is one of the modern design trends providing to solve the following problems: rational use of resources in the process of designing, manufacturing and using products; compliance with the principle of environmental friendliness and safety at all stages of the product lifecycle; the possibility of recycling or reuse of materials. Such trends in costume design as the development of products with a waste-free cut, the development of products made of non-traditional materials, including recycled materials, are increasingly attracting the attention of designers. To solve the actual problems of ecodesign, the authors propose a modular method that has long been known in the field of costume design, which is the basis for the standardization and unification processes used in the industrial design of various products. It is known that the use of modular design in the creation of light industry products is limited by the characteristics of the geometric surface of the shape of the designed object. However, from the standpoint of ecodesign, the use of the modular principle in the design of costume elements can allow you to create universal forms with zero wastes of cutting, having an actual artistic design, made of modern materials, etc., which are characterized by the connection of parts (modules) that have a configuration of simple geometric shapes in one way or another. The authors conducted research on the possibilities of using the modular method in the industrial design of a modern costume. Research have shown that in the process of modular design of light industry products, there are problems of developing a modular form of the future product that meets modern fashion trends while finding the optimal size of the module that ensures the cost-effectiveness and manufacturability of the product design. In the article, the authors propose the solution of problems through the design of modern modular structures and consider the prospects for their further application to solve the problems of ecodesign.
