Abstract. This article presents a new solution of a connecting hermetic seam with increased resistance to rupture, in order to preserve the physiological comfort of a person in underwater welding conditions. Systematization and analysis of research and development concerning the methods of connecting seams in wetsuits allowed us to formulate the main criteria for their selection. The presented analysis of existing technological processes for performing connecting seams in wetsuits allowed us to highlight the predominant features of each: pre-processing of sections, the use of a flat seam, pre-gluing of sections, the use of thermal adhesive tape on the wrong side. The results of patent studies of methods for sealing thread seams have justified the need to increase the strength of the connecting seam, while maintaining its tightness and flexibility. In this paper, a method for obtaining a connecting sealed seam with increased mechanical resistance to rupture for a protective wetsuit is proposed and developed. The achievement of increased tear resistance during elongation in the proposed structure of the seam made of foamed materials is based on a new geometric model of the interface of the cut surfaces in the area of the connecting seam in combination with thread and adhesive methods of fixation and sealing. The peculiarity of such a seam is the ability to apply more than one structurally different materials mated in the connecting seam, including surface barrier coatings and layers relevant to the protective clothing of underwater welders. The article presents the results of experimental studies of resistance to tensile stress. It has been experimentally established that the highlighted green should be replaced with the general essence in the previous sentence. It was found that the tensile load of the developed new sealed seam exceeds the same indicator of a typical glued flat joint by 21 %, which confirms the effectiveness of the presented development and additional opportunities to increase the efficiency of the use of sealed connecting seams in clothing for underwater welding.
