Abstract. The article provides an analysis of fashion trends of the last decade from the perspective of the use of fur elements in clothes as structural parts or decorative finishes. The authors present the results of a marketing survey of 350 consumers of younger and middle age groups about differences in the perception of natural and artificial fur, which showed that 44.8 % of respondents did not find a significant difference in visual and tactile characteristics in terms of general appearance, silkiness, softness, color and texture of fur natural and artificial fur, and 29.7 % were unable to distinguish a sample of natural fur of the breed of satin rabbit from faux fur that imitates it. Based on the results of experimental studies of consumer properties of natural and artificial rabbit fur, the authors conclude that it is possible to substitutability natural and artificial fur when creating collections of models with fur elements. The article shows the developed collection of clothes “Fur Geometry”, including a coat, suits, vest and dress, decorated with fur elements from faux fur.

The authors noted that the design of products decorated with economical types of natural and artificial fur is a socially targeted process, since their low cost does not allow products to become obsolete even with a short duration of their use and makes clothes more accessible to a wide range of people. The results of the marketing research show that both natural and artificial fur have their own targeted consumers: for domestic consumers of older age groups, natural fur remains a symbol of status and comfort, while for foreign consumers of generations Y and Z, artificial fur becomes a condition of socialization in youth environment as a symbol of greater environmental friendliness.
