Abstract. The modern world is integrally connected with design. Design as a design method and industrial creativity helps society in work and life, influences the style and lifestyle of a person. For many centuries before the advent of design, decorative and applied art created the foundation for the formation of creativity in design, formed a material subject-spatial environment, and contributed to the accumulation of knowledge and artistic techniques by art. The general theoretical analysis of the basic concepts and categories of decorative and applied art showed that it is closely related to the formation of artistic taste, values, general ideas about the laws of creating a subject-spatial environment, stores and transmits traditional technologies into modern socio-cultural space. The article proposes a shoe design method that allows you to successfully introduce elements of decorative and applied arts (DAE) into the technological process of mass production of shoes and accessories. To do this, it is necessary to use approaches that allow the unification of the DPI element and its correlation with the details of shoes and accessories. The developed design method is based on the principle of modularity, which includes the geometry of abstract graphic contours. Such a system allows, with rapid changes in fashion trends, to replace the assortment without changing the entire production process. The relevance of the work is determined by the priority directions of the Strategy for the Development of Light Industry in the Russian Federation for the period until 2025, as well as the state program «Development of Industry and Increasing its Competitiveness», approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation.
