Abstract. Environmental priorities and resource conservation are becoming one of the main trends in the fashion industry and will continue to gain momentum in the long term. The necessity and fundamental importance of their development are conditioned by the tasks of sustainable fashion, clothing manufacturers should show personal responsibility in the context of respect for natural resources and realize their role in overcoming the ecological crisis. One of the problems of ecology is clothingism, the underlying principles of which are the satisfaction of consumer demand for «infinity» of product range and quick availability of fashion novelties. Expanding the functionality of garments as a result of using techniques and elements of transformation is one of the ways to reduce the number of clothes in the closet. Clothing transformation is an ecologically oriented direction in clothing production, being the right step towards «sustainable fashion», personalization, individualization and multifunctionality of women’s clothing closet. Based on the study of existing methods of clothing transformation, analysis of scientific publications and patent documentation on this direction, it is concluded that transformation options in clothing are more often found in women’s products. At the same time, the transformation elements are very diverse, as are the products in which they are introduced. However, transformation methods are less applied in the design of products within the outerwear assortment. The article considers the variant of manufacturing a women’s jacket on the basis of the transformation technique «separation — joining», the element of transformation is a removable lower part of the jacket. The ability of the product to modification gives the product an important property — multifunctionality. A special emphasis in the confectioning of materials for women’s jacket is directed to the choice of sewing accessories to connect the main and removable parts of the jacket.
