The image of nuns in the design of modern costume

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the image of a nun in the design of a modern costume: collections of the spring-summer and autumn-winter seasons for the period from 2010 to 2017 are considered. The influence of religion on the creativity of modern designers is noted: how exactly the religious costumes of nuns are interpreted in modern collections of designers. The elements of the image used by the designers in the design of the costume are considered: the general silhouette and elements of the costume, accessories, colors. Based on the results of the analysis of eight collections of different seasons (in the period from 2010 to 2017), it was concluded that to create an image, designers and photographers in their works adhere to the use of: color range of the direction; the silhouette of the robes of the clergy; hats (leaving only the face open); suitable material that characterizes the image of a nun. In addition, designers focus on clothing details (such as collars, cuffs, etc.), as well as accessories (with religious symbols, crosses, chains, etc.). Designers, in general, build the silhouette of their models in such a way that it resembles the attire of the clergy. Designers do not at all suggest that modern girls and women wear a hood and a cassock, they suggest that they be self-sufficient and strict. In the image of a nun, the roughness of the fabric creates a form that hides the true outlines of the body, the clarity of the lines confirms the girl’s confidence and conviction, her «inner core». The colors most often used to create the image of a nun are black and white, complemented by silver and gold metal, pearls and semi-precious stones.
