Abstract. Today it is impossible to imagine the world fashion industry without digital technologies, which are actively used for virtual fitting of clothes, shows and presentations in AR and VR, creation of meta universes, image and media products. A fashion designer of light industry products carries out all stages of modelling and designing products in the virtual world, which entails the need to form a high level of digital competence in students of fashion designers and designers in the system of higher education. Digital fashion is actively developing in two directions: the use of artificial intelligence in the development of artistic sketches and digital design of products. The CLO 3D software allows to integrate the two directions. The graphic editor is used for 3D modelling of clothes, using the possibilities of simple and fast customisation, variation of processing of the initial image of models and its transformation into many variants. CLO 3D digital models of garments allow the realisation of ideas, significantly shortening the path from artistic design to realistic visualisation. The authors of the article have reviewed software products designed for visualisation and design of footwear models, investigated the possibilities of using CLO 3D software in the artistic design of footwear, developed an algorithm for designing a shoe upper blank, revealed the drawbacks of working in a graphic editor, determined the prospects of using the software in the educational process of the direction «Design of light industry products», profile «Artistic modelling and digital design of leather goods». The stages of work on the digital model in the CLO 3D programme are considered in detail. The relevance of the work is conditioned by the priority directions of the Strategy for the development of light industry in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025, as well as the state programme «Development of industry and increasing its competitiveness» approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation.
