Abstract. In the article, the author considers the system-functional approach as a goal-setting direction in modeling the processes of obtaining textile materials with specified properties, which involves studying the elements, structure and functional relationships that make up this system.

A classification of system types is proposed. Based on which it can be concluded that textile materials are complex multi-level, poorly organized (due to the heterogeneity of the structure characteristic of fibrous materials and a large statistical spread of their characteristics), closed systems, textile production is a complex multi-level, well-organized, open system.

The combination of the principles of consistency and functionality formed a universal method that has found wide application today in the design of textile materials. The system-functional approach allows us to consider textile materials as an object whose function is realized by both its elements (raw material composition) and the relationships between them: design, method of connecting fibrous materials together. Based on the possibilities it provides, a methodological algorithm for creating textile materials with specified properties is proposed. The article presents the stages of their design. The increasing complexity of technological processes, the increase in the number of parameters that are significant in their construction, the reduction in modeling time, the need to save material and financial resources make subject modeling difficult to implement and inappropriate. Mathematical modeling of technological processes using modern computer technologies allows us to avoid these problems.

The article formulates the requirements for the developed models. An algorithm for assessing the resulting models of textile products is proposed.
