Abstract. The article is devoted to the development of recommendations on the field of application and research of properties of water-protective materials of different structures and their compounds for the purpose of confectioning of materials in the package of clothing. The paper summarizes the results of research of operational and hygienic properties of water-protective multifunctional complex materials with membranes of different structures in temperature and humidity conditions characteristic for clothing materials and substantiates the scope of their application and the need for certain types of laboratory tests to obtain high-quality clothing. The objects of research are waterproof materials containing in their structure textile layers and polymeric membrane, providing a high level of water resistance and at the same time able to pass water vapor.

The study of the structure of materials was carried out, samples of materials united by the principle of similarity of the polymer membrane structure were created, the results of the study of waterproof properties, comfort and reliability in operation of 93 articles of materials were analyzed.

As a result of the work performed, experimental data on the properties of waterproof materials with membranes of different structures in temperature and humidity conditions typical for clothing materials have been generalized and the substantiation of their application area has been given in accordance with the tendencies in changing the level of properties that appear in the process of operation. The matrix of functionality of materials compiled on the basis of the analysis of experimental data will allow to make quick decisions on the issues of rational selection of materials in the package of waterproof clothing depending on the known conditions of its operation, developed methods and means of investigation of properties of waterproof materials with membrane can be used to develop optimal modes of obtaining various types of joints of waterproof textile materials, which is confirmed by experiments conducted by the author of the article for sewing and footwear enterprises.
