Abstract. The article addresses the problem of creating a Christian image in contemporary art through an innovative reading of the materials used. The dynamism with which Christian-themed art develops, attracting a rich heritage of canonical art, world experience and modern technology for an imaginative solution, makes it necessary to study this phenomenon, especially in terms of originality and originality of approaches. Turning to various traditional materials, such as wood, metal, textiles, the authors, through their comprehension of their semantic content and artistic potential, reveal the depths of the Christian image turned to the reflection of a modern person. Among the variety of materials, one of the frequently used is textiles, which have a unique artistic plasticity and symbolism. Modern masters appeal to the ancient, Old Testament and gospel meanings of thread, canvas and vestments-costume as a derivative of them, transformerю. Modern masters appeal to the ancient, Old Testament and gospel meanings of thread, canvas and vestments-costume as a derivative of them, transforming them according to their plan. That is why the article pays attention to the origins of modern Christian imagery: the symbolic meaning of the trinity of thread, textile and costume as a metaphor for being and human life. The expressiveness and depth of Christian images in the works of I. Zatulovskaya, M. Demin, G. Chahal, S. Foton and others are often revealed through the use of color-plastic, ornamental and textural characteristics of textile materials that are part of a picturesque fabric or an important semantic accent of the installation. In the work of T. Badanina, the costume is interpreted as an independent artistic image that reveals the metaphorical essence of this phenomenon. The search for the creation of Christian images developing outside the liturgical context through the expressiveness of materials, including textiles, seems promising and artistically convincing.
