Abstract. The subject of the research is the peculiarities of socio-cultural space in city design for costume design analysis. The author examines in detail aspects such as characteristics of socio-culture environment, tangible and intangible elements of the city.
The paper justifies the importance of studying socio-cultural spaces for costume design. Characteristics of socio-cultures spaces are defined and examined, which consist of a complex system of interactions between cultural and social factors in the city, with socio-cultural environments and city dwellers influencing each other.
The analysis of phenomena and objects in the socio-cultural environment of the city is conducted. Industries included in its culture are examined; the role of creative industries is described; and the role of information technology is described. Special attention is paid to the features of creative industry.
Factors influencing the structural and semantic formation of urban costume are identified and organized. Understanding how these components interact allows one to create a garment that not only satisfies functional requirements, but also becomes a part of cultural context.
An up-to-date inventory of characteristics for the socio-culture space in a city has been created, which must be considered when designing urban garments for various purposes. Features of urban social and cultural spaces are divided into two groups according to their positive and negative impacts on city dwellers’ lives.
Conclusions are drawn about the possibility of practical application of the data obtained during the design process by the designer.
