Abstract. The article establishes that one of the main trends in the development of materials for medical clothing is the selection of optimal fiber composition, as well as the introduction of functional textile materials. The role of corporate culture and a unified corporate identity of medical organizations is substantiated, which creates an additional demand for aesthetic and comfortable fabrics with improved performance characteristics. The analysis of the market of fabrics for medical clothing is presented. The principle of grouping fabrics is chosen depending on the mixed composition. Modern materials are systematized into six main groups: blended fabrics with a low cotton content (33–35 %), blended fabrics with viscose (33–35 %), fabrics with a high cotton content (50–80 %), elastic fabrics, polyester anti-electrostatic lint-free fabrics, as well as innovative materials with the addition of new types of fibers (lyocell, modal, bamboo). Based on the analysis, data on key manufacturers (Russia, China, Italy, England, Japan), the range and types of finishes used are presented, which allows us to form a holistic view of the current state of the medical clothing fabric market and its development directions. The main methods of making fabric elastic at the moment are described: by embedding elastic fibers or threads, as well as the technology of «mechanical stretch», achieved through the structure of threads and weaving. The problems of the regulatory framework for assessing the specific protective properties of tissue (blood-repellent properties, microbial permeability, etc.) have been identified. The lack of national standards for assessing tissue elasticity has been noted and the need to introduce the international standard (ISO 20932-1) into domestic practice has been indicated. The results obtained can be used in the selection of materials for medical workers’ clothing.
