Abstract. Currently, such fashion trends as the use of various non-functional elements of a suit, a quick change of shapes and cuts, and hypertrophy of forms and elements are popular. The combinatorial method has long been known in the field of product design. The principle of transformation in garments is the basis of standardization and unification processes that have long been effectively used in industrial design. The use of the principle of transformation in the design of garments allows you to create universal classic basic forms with a variety of decoration with additional details or products that have an actual decoration, made of modern materials, etc., which are characterized by a technological connection in one way or another. Within the framework of research work at the Department of apparel and footwear design, KNRTU, three most promising areas of application of the combinatorial method in designing clothes were identified, which were implemented in product samples. In the article, the authors present the results of a study aimed at the implementation of the combinatorial method in the compositional structuring of a women’s full dress, taking into account the serial type of production. Research work was carried out in conjunction with the masters of the department, samples were worked out in various assortment groups. In the process of design and technological development of the models, special importance was attached to functionality and ease of use by the consumer. To maximize the satisfaction of constantly changing consumer demands, the principle of mass customization was used, aimed at rationalizing the production of original products. Studies have shown that the use of the combinatorial method in product design allows increasing customer satisfaction due to a large number of compositional combinations while maintaining the labor intensity of the process of design and technological preparation of models. This is especially true for small and medium-scale production, which is focused mainly on the production of modern fashionable clothes with minimal design costs. The article examines examples of elements of an full dress and a matrix of their compositional combinations and the advantages of using the combinatorial method in the industrial design of garments.
