Abstract. This article will discuss the influence of escapism on the formation of trends in fashion. «Aesthetic escapism» is a new term these days. It’s been called «Aesthetic» because «escape» from reality has been carried out in the field of aesthetic senses of art.» The main feature of aesthetic escapism is creative self-realization. The aesthetic appearance of escapism, both physical and psycho-physical, is an “escape” from reality and it is “giving birth” to a new product in the first place. This product is a kind of artifact that involves other artists and non-artists who also strive for escapist consciousness. Secondly, in most of cases aesthetic escapism it has a positive effect on the personality, helps in self-realization, unlocking potential and opens the ability to heal self-identity. Fashion as a communication mechanism is not only capable of conveying the information about how to manage the society consciousness, but also get influence from escapist directions. In general fashion as well as art can be directly related to escapist consciousness. Since escapism is a universal phenomenon, it is also reflected in the fashion context. New stylistic trends in fashion, the emergence of fashionable values that go against the existing ones, the inspiration of style icons, previous style trends and borrowing trends from cinema, literature and contemporary art – these are all about escapism in fashion. The most striking manifestation of escapist consciousness are subcultural streams. The emergence of subcultures, first of all, is associated with the search for the identity of the individual at the stage of formation of his self, that is, the formation of personality. The term «youth subculture» is most often used because the search process begins at a young age. In such subcultures people are united with similar ideas, values and principles of life, which have not only psychological and sociological subtext, but also contain a number of features and attributes that distinguish them externally. These include clothing, accessories, hairstyle, makeup, vocabulary, demeanor and lifestyle in general as well as musical, literary or film preferences. Modern culture can combine the attributes of different subcultures or exist separately by distinguishing from mass culture. Nowadays, in times of mass media domination, the boundaries of separate subcultures are erased and then individualism became a special value. It can be considered that escapist trends in fashion are inevitable because fashion trends are constantly returning. Its repeating already experienced and well-known elements as a result combines different styles, forms, details at the same time. In this process «neo-gothic», «neo-punk», «neo-grunge» are created. This gives an opportunity to follow the fashion trends dependence from escapist directions by giving new opportunities in costume design.
