Abstract. Modification methods using high-frequency discharges are widely used to modify textile materials of various fibrous composition. In this work, the influence of the parameters of modification by high-frequency plasma of reduced pressure in various plasma-forming gases on the surface microrelief of synthetic multifilament fibers based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and polyamide is investigated. A change in the microrelief of the surface of synthetic fibrous materials has a significant effect on their tribological and physicomechanical properties, and regulation of the surface roughness is important in preparing the surface of textile fibrous materials for coating and metallization. The obtained research results allow us to conclude that the modification of synthetic fibers based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and polyamide in high-frequency plasma of argon, argon/nitrogen and air leads to smoothing of the fiber surface and the formation of a more uniform surface structure. The greatest smoothing of the surface of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and polyamide fibers is observed after high-frequency plasma modification in a

plasma-forming argon gas, which can be associated with more intense oxidation processes occurring on the surface of polymer materials during their modification in high-frequency argon/nitrogen and air plasma. The absence of obvious differences in the change in the microrelief of the surface of synthetic fibers during high-frequency treatment in different plasma-forming gases indicates that the main contribution to the decrease in roughness is made by the physical effect of plasma on the modified polymer materials, the results of which can be sputtering of the surface layer of the polymer, as well as desorption and evaporation from the surface of the fibers of the apprets. The results are part of the author’s dissertation research.
