Abstract. The article addresses the problem of transforming polygonal meshes obtained from the 3D scanning of museum artifacts for their subsequent use in digital archives, virtual exhibitions, and visualization systems for cultural heritage objects. The relevance of the study is обусловлена by the fact that the original models generated from 3D scanning data often contain an irregular polygonal structure, which complicates further processing, optimization, and use in computer graphics applications. The aim of this study is to develop an approach that ensures the generation of a regular polygonal mesh while preserving the original texture information. The research is based on the results of 3D scanning of a museum textile artifact using the CR-Scan Ferret Series scanner and Creality Scan 4 software. The proposed method is based on the use of the Smooth Remesh modifier in Blender to reconstruct the model topology, followed by the transfer of the Albedo texture map onto the new polygonal mesh using Marmoset Toolbag. The paper describes in detail the stages of model preparation, generation of a new UV map, configuration of texture baking parameters, and evaluation of the quality of the obtained results. A comparison of the proposed approach with alternative polygonal mesh optimization methods is carried out using qualitative and quantitative criteria. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed method preserves the geometric features of the object and the visual fidelity of its texture while requiring significantly less time than manual retopology. This makes the approach promising for digital museology, cultural heritage preservation, and the development of modern digital museum collections and educational interactive projects.
