Abstract. Currently, in a highly competitive environment, light industry enterprises are beginning to use mass customization of their products in order to make products more attractive to consumers. Nowadays customers are ready to purchase not just clothes, but precisely those models, which can satisfy their wishes regarding colour, silhouette, decor and fit. At the same time, in circumstances of financial activity’s declining, many consumers are switching from luxury brands to mass-produced brands. Such world famous brands as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Ecco, New Balance, Vans, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Ralf Lauren, Pandora and others have already successfully implemented the principles of mass customization in the apparel and accessories production. With the help of specially designed websites and mobile applications, the brand’s clients can participate in sneaker design’s creation; order a polo with a personal monogram or a baseball cap with the visor’s color they like. This article gives definitions to the concepts of «mass customization» and «globalization», as well as describes the competitive advantages of products’ mass customization in the context of globalization. Modular design meets the globalization requirements for modern mass production. This article provides a study and compiled classification of all currently known methods of contemporary apparel design. The examples of each method’s usage are given and all methods’ graphical schemes are shown. It is concluded, that the further development of modular apparel design will allow this method to be introduced not only into serial, but also into mass production of clothing, which will bring the apparel industry to a qualitatively new level.
