Abstract. The article, which is part of the dissertation, studies, systematizes and analyzes modern sets of men’s underwear, including products for military personnel, Russian companies by design divisions, silhouette and types of knitted fabrics used for their manufacture in order to select the optimal option of moisture-wicking underwear — the first layer of a set of tactical equipment for the regions of the Far North. The subject of the study is men’s vests, boxers and long johns of domestic production for special/tactical and household purposes. The authors formulated the requirements for underwear group products for the regions of the Arctic and the Arctic shelf, and provided the main technical characteristics of the materials used for their production. The results of the study of the samples are systematized and presented in the form of diagrams in the figures and in tabular form by design and silhouette solutions of men’s underwear items, by the types and characteristics of knitted fabrics from which they are made. The design features of the shoulder and waist products of the underwear group are also given; The dependence of the silhouette solution of the studied samples on the fiber composition of the knitwear used is shown. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, the article presents options for the most common model features of vests, boxers and underpants and substantiates the use of knitted fabrics by fiber composition for the region of operation with especially low temperatures. In conclusion, the authors give recommendations on the optimal choice of knitwear, silhouette and design solutions for shoulder and waist items of men’s underwear of the first layer — the base layer of the Arctic set of tactical equipment.
