Abstract. It is shown that one of the main trends in the development of clothing for sports and active recreation is the introduction of functional textile materials. Due to the accumulation of advanced achievements in the field of nanotechnology, microelectronics, physics, and chemistry, such materials change the value of property indicators when weather conditions fluctuate and human physical activity changes. The main tasks solved through the use of functional textile materials are systematized: microclimate control, protection of the underwear space from the penetration of external moisture; regulation of heat flows in a clothing package; measurement of biosignals, processing and transmission of received data to external devices.

The main structural features and directions of their development of functional textile materials have been established. It is shown that controlling the flow of moisture in the structure of a clothing package and giving it pronounced hydrophobic properties is carried out through the use of the original properties of nano-sized coatings of fibers and fabrics. Control of heat transfer processes is achieved by: changing the air concentration in the sheets through the use of profiled fibers; chemical modification of fibers with polymers with a phase transition temperature close to skin temperature; use of metal nano-sized coatings. To regulate convective flows in the structure of a clothing package, new types of textile materials with shape memory effect have been developed, which allows them, under certain conditions, to activate windows for the movement of moist air.

The ability to transmit electrical and electronic signals is ensured by the introduction of sensors, microcircuits, and signal conductors into the structure of the fabrics.

Classifications have been proposed and promising directions for providing new and improved properties of all considered groups of textile materials have been established.

Keywords: functional textile materials; dynamic properties; hydrophobicity; physical modification; chemical modification; heat and mass transfer; conductive threads; wearable electronics
