Abstract. The article touches upon the main problems of designing clothes for special purposes. The process of making clergymen’s attire, where there is a lack of scientifically grounded recommendations on the development of structures, sewing technology and symbolic decoration of vestments that meet both the format of Orthodox culture and modern requirements of ergonomics, becomes a difficult factor.

Vestments for priests as a kind of special clothes are operated using fire Church paraphernalia when serving in a closed room – a Temple, a church, a chapel (the open fire, burning candles, the melting incense, the smoldering coal, the lamp oil, the censer) and in front of large crowds. This can lead to the appearance of irreparable scorch marks, the appearance of stains from oil and wax on clothes. Depending on the properties of the materials used, these stains may be difficult to remove. In the process of worship, water is often used, the splashes of which, when hit on black vestments, leave stains, streaks, traces of salt, and thus the color of materials changes.

The quality of liturgical vestments, as well as any other type of clothing must meet the basic ergonomic requirements and provide comfort.

Peculiarities of the microclimate of clothing space are considered on the example of Russian cassock cut. The design of the cassock, which is a long humeral product of a semi-adjacent silhouette, with sleeves that have a recessed square armhole with padding and a stand-up collar, ensures optimal functioning.

Ergonomic rational design of the costume of the clergy, protecting the person, his physical body and psyche from the impact of adverse factors, increases efficiency, marks the status, emphasizes the social position in the socio-cultural space.
