Abstract. The range of modern footwear for special purposes is quite wide, it is determined by the areas of economic activity of enterprises and organizations of various industries. On the modern market, there are many types of special footwear that meets its main function, protective, and accordingly satisfies consumers with its protective properties. Despite this, there are complaints about the properties of safety shoes, both from the wearers themselves and from enterprises that purchase and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to their employees. To determine in what period of wear and to what properties of shoes workers, direct wearers of special footwear, complain, we conducted a study of the dynamics of changes in consumer satisfaction with the properties of footwear during wear during the service life declared by the manufacturer. Subjective research methods were chosen as research methods, which allow covering a wide range of footwear properties and considering consumer properties directly at the time of operation. Modern samples of special footwear with protection against electric current and electric arc, which were in operation throughout the entire work shift, were studied. The results of the study showed that the main complaints from consumers are about the ergonomic properties, safety properties and reliability of shoes. The discrepancy between the reliability of footwear leads to additional costs for enterprises to purchase PPE. The unsatisfactory ergonomic properties of footwear towards the end of wear lead to a deterioration in the biological safety of the footwear itself. These changes, in turn, lead not only to premature wear of the shoes themselves, but also to a deterioration in the health of wearers (lead to fungal diseases of the foot, hyperhidrosis). The health of workers is an important resource for employers who are concerned about health. The results and conclusions of the study made it possible to develop recommendations for the rational industrial design of special-purpose footwear with improved consumer properties that ensure the health-saving function of footwear.
