Abstract. In modern conditions for the expansion of the assortment of fur goods designers in the production of fashionable collections try to cover as much as possible the species diversity of furs and fur skins. Since 2012, furs of fischer skins have become especially popular among foreign furs. The article is devoted to the study of structural-geometric and optical characteristics of the hair cover of semi-finished furs to establish the functional purpose and technological capabilities of this type of fur. It has been established that the hair cover of semi-finished fisher consists of guide, butt, transitional and down hairs, thus determining the tiered structure. Hair length varies greatly depending on the topographic section of the pelt, especially the pinned and down hairs on the neck compared to other topographic sections of the pelt. The study shows that fisher pelts are characterized by significant variability in color and concentration of silver hair, the new knowledge obtained about the distribution of coloration on pelts allowed us to propose a grading taking into account the area occupied by the silver zone with fixed intervals of it. In addition, it was determined that the weight of the unit area of pelts is 12.8 g/dm2, which allows us to refer this type of fur to the group of heavy. The results obtained will make it possible to form homogeneous batches of furs, choose cutting methods and predict the use of fur in the production of articles.
