Abstract. The article presents the results of sociological research to determine the relevance of the use of arts and crafts techniques (DPI) in light industry products for the following time periods: 2018–2019, 2020–2021, 2022 The study of national art and traditions has a huge impact on the development of contemporary art and design, motivates the creation of new artistic forms and solutions, increases the creative potential of light industry designers and fashion designers. The use of the potential of ethnic culture in creativity contributes to the formation of an original state that demonstrates historical achievements and their use in the modern world.
Interest in the ethnic theme is characteristic of various areas of modern culture: in landscape design, interior design, music, the revival of handicraft production, clothing, footwear and accessories. Ethnic style has won a leading position in the fashion world, because it is diverse, bright, natural, original. Ethnic ideas are manifested in costume design in several ways: interest in «ethno» in the context of ecological thinking; development of ethnic style as an accent of individuality in the image; as part of a fairy tale; search for an ergonomic component in ethnic forms. The significance of these sociological studies lies in the identification of the relevance of the use of arts and crafts in modern design, the definition of popular techniques. The introduction of arts and crafts techniques in the context of modern fashion allows to accumulate traditional, original art into art objects, solves the problem of «innovation», contributes to the preservation of arts and crafts as a value orientation of modern culture in accordance with technological and social development.
