Abstract. In the article, the author touched upon the problem of studying and preserving traditions in decorative and applied arts by developing and manufacturing a collection of bags with Florentine embroidery, and reveals the features of making this type of accessory from plastic canvas. The article provides a brief historical background on Florentine embroidery. The author writes that one of the most important and basic accessories of a woman’s wardrobe is a bag, which in addition to its main functions (storing and carrying various items), it complements the suit and plays an important role in creating a complete, harmonious image.

In this article, the author describes in detail the technology for manufacturing a collection of bags from plastic canvas using Florentine embroidery without the use of sewing equipment. The author recommends tools and materials for making the «Classics» collection of bags. The novelty is that the author of the article suggests using plastic canvas rather than textile canvas to make bags. According to the author, such a canvas will keep the shape of the bags and there is no need to use additional materials to ensure the shape stability of the bags during use. The technological sequence for making a clutch bag is presented in the form of a table. The desire to use such a slow and painstaking technique as embroidery in creativity contradicts the high speeds of not only production, but also life in the 21st century. However, it is the meditativeness that is attractive. For embroidery, not only the result is important, but also the process.

The work carried out by the author helps to establish an organic relationship and continuity between the experience of the past and present in the field of preserving national traditions in the decorative and applied arts. Also, the information presented will make it possible to disseminate and preserve traditions in arts and crafts among connoisseurs of handicraft technologies and interested readers.
