Abstract. In the current conditions of global competition of sewing goods, the use of original solutions in costume design based on new methods of art modeling contributes to the successful development of the Russian apparel industry by expanding the range of manufactured clothes and creating products with unique aesthetic properties. The article presents the main aspects of the modular design method application in the art modeling of clothes with repetitive unified cut details. One of the world’s design trends is the creation of objects that allow you to individualize the space around a person. In the fashion world this trend is embodied in clothes designed for individual self-expression. New design methods are needed to create such clothes, that will allow producing goods in the conditions of modern sewing manufactures that differ by the simplicity of manufacturing technology, but at the same time have an innovative appearance, which is inherent in modular clothes made of unified repeating details of the same or homothetic shape. The adaptation of the modular design method for art modeling of garments as art-objects of complex spatial shape based on well-known engineering methods for constructing spatial form will expand the range of manufactured goods by using new textile and non-textile materials and innovative technologies for their processing.

The article describes the developed generalized method of clothes art modeling for creation of constructions consisted of repetitive unified modular details. According to the method of art modeling proposed by the authors the shape and size of the modular details of the sewing good are determined taking into account four components: the external form of the item, the physical and mechanical properties of materials, the manufacturing technology of the item and the projected visual illusions.
