Abstract. The article raises the important problem of the relevance of the Russian style for Russian design in the work of domestic fashion designers and textile designers who are reviving the indigo hand block print technique. The masters of the indigo hand block print E. Dikova, V. Golubeva, P. Osipov, E. Kondratieva create original ornamental compositions for rapport fabrics and costume items using Russian folklore motifs. Folklore ornamental forms from various fields of folk art are widely used. Traditional motifs of historical printed fabrics of the XVI–XIX centuries, motifs of wooden carvings, engraved splints, peasant embroidery, ceramic tiles are popular with textile designers. Indigo hand block print canvases are used in the creative process of creating traditional Russian and modern costumes by domestic fashion designers N. Teryukhin, E. Knysh and designers V. Golubeva and E. Kondratieva. At the beginning of the XXI century, these masters draw their inspiration from an inexhaustible source — Russian culture and art. Folklore ornamental motifs of fabrics, recognizable lines of the historical cut of the Russian folk costume are read by the viewer, establishing an invisible link between the continuity of cultural traditions of the national code that defines our cultural, national identity. Stylization of folklore motifs of a wide range, which is a characteristic creative technique of modern designers, enriches the expressiveness of hand-made cubic prints, makes it promising and opens up a wide fan of possibilities for the creative imagination of fashion designers. The interest of modern textile designers and fashion designers in man-made folk fabrics, which include indigo hand block print, and its use in costume design, make the study of this type of folk art relevant in this article.
