Abstract. Folk costume is the subject of study, but sometimes remains beyond the attention of the modern fashion industry. The traditional outfit of any nation is an inspiration for the artist. This kind of applied art is a vivid example of material culture and the synthesis of decorative art. This topic is interesting not only as a kind of artistic heritage, but also as a separate type of industry. Ornamentation and decoration of the elements of the cut, draw attention to their unique pattern, which is of a personal nature and subtext. The system of signs that our ancestors used as decoration was endowed with semantic meanings and had centuries-old roots. Many motifs are combined in conciseness and simplicity. A traditional outfit is an ensemble built in the regular rhythm of fabrics and planes, volumes and textures, a connecting decor and color. The purpose of this article is to study the ethnography of the Russian people, namely the southern part of Russia, which is an iconic representative of the traditional costume.
