Abstract. According to statistics of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Federation, every second emergency situation on urban roads is a collision with pedestrians. The main share of collisions occurs at night, as the driver does not see people who have entered the roadway. The actual problem of increasing the level of safety of the elderly as vulnerable segments of the population is considered. Design and technological solutions for the functional use of reflective elements in clothing for the elderly are proposed. Variants of models of women’s demi-season clothing made of raincoat materials and technological techniques for the use of retroreflective materials on the main and finishing details of the garment have been developed. At the stage of designing models, the problems of age variability of consumer preferences and requirements for clothing for older women are taken into account. The main methods of studying consumer preferences were questionnaires and surveys. Analysis of the answers to questions about the design and technological features of the products found that older women prefer classic shoulder products of straight or trapezoidal silhouettes with the leading shape of the raglan sleeve and the length of the product below the hips. Elderly people are cautious about fashionable offers and prefer restrained tones of cold shades. The results of the survey confirmed the high interest of elderly women in clothes that could increase their level of safety on the roads. 69.12 % of respondents believe that such clothes are necessary and will be in demand. The issue of safety is no less important for older men. The models of demi-season clothing for men of the older age group have been developed using elements made of retroreflective materials.
