Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the evolution of the uniform dresses of Russian empresses of the XVIII–XX centuries and the analysis of their artistic, historical and symbolic significance.
The aim of the work is to identify the patterns of formation of the uniform dress as a phenomenon of women’s costume, which arose at the junction of military and court traditions, as well as to determine its influence on modern artistic design.
The article examines the stages of the development of court fashion in Russia from the reforms of Peter I (1672–1725) to the era of Nicholas II (1868–1918), traces the influence of European trends, men’s uniforms and the political context on women’s costume. Special attention is paid to the activities of Catherine II (1729–1796), during which the uniform dress acquired the status of a symbol of state affiliation and feminine dignity.
The research is based on the analysis of portrait images, archival sources, museum collections and literary descriptions. The paper uses methods of comparative historical and artistic-stylistic analysis, allowing us to consider the uniform dress as an element of the cultural identity of the era. The author identifies the features of the composition, silhouette, color scheme and decorative design of costumes that form the aesthetic code of the imperial court.
The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comprehensive consideration of the uniform dress as a synthetic phenomenon combining the traditions of military and women’s costume. The practical significance of the work is determined by the possibility of using the revealed patterns in the design of modern clothing collections inspired by Russian court fashion and the principles of artistic synthesis.
