Naturalism and stylization of the costume embodied in a sculptural form

Abstract. This article discusses two principles of displaying costume forms: in a realistic imitation of nature and using the author’s stylization. The materialization of the sculptor’s idea is traced, embodied in the sculptural form of various epochal periods. The aspect of the historical influence of the specifics of the costume image in classical sculpture is described using the example of reading the ancient heritage in the Art Nouveau era. The author analyzes the range of author’s stylizations in the interpretations of modern images and historical replicas. The article considers the specifics of the search for an image in the context of displaying various narrative narratives and complementing the completeness of the disclosure of the image of the location of the exposition. The analysis of stylistic techniques is carried out using the example of a costume as an integral form in the works of sculpture of small forms by young authors. It tells about the embodiment of the architectonics of clothing, accessories and attributes that complete the holistic image using materials and technologies peculiar to small plastics.

Since the costume in this perspective is the object of embodiment, and sculpting and modeling are a way of reproduction, this scientific work examines scientific works on the history and modification of costume and the theory of sculpture. Based on the research of theorists in the field of analysis of the historical transformation of the costume and the theory of its design. Based on scientific materials in the field of historical heritage, techniques and materials for sculptural forms.

The author of this study comes to the conclusion that designing and creating sculptures in the material is impossible without a thorough and detailed study of nature and the use of techniques of author’s stylization.
