Abstract. In the article, the authors note that the methodological basis for stabilizing the quality and safety of textile materials is knowledge of the mechanisms of their destruction. The complexity of the problem lies in the fact that in real conditions, the destruction of materials occurs under the influence of not one, but a complex of destructive factors. The article presents the results of the study, on the basis of which conclusions are made.

During the deformation of stretching, bending and compression, the properties of textile materials deteriorate due to loosening of the bonds between individual threads in the product, between individual fibers in the threads, as well as the intramolecular structure without loss of mass. The level of reduction in the strength of tissues as a result of repeated stretching depends mainly on their fibrous composition.

Elongation at the moment of rupture characterizes the ability of tissues to stretch deformation. The resistance of clothing products to the action of multiple loads indicates good relaxation properties of the material, which leads to the restoration of individual structural elements under the influence of mechanical factors.

When bending, the outer part of the material is stretched, and the inner part is compressed. The gradual loosening of the intramolecular structure of fibers due to repeated bends during the operation of products leads to a decrease in the strength of fabrics.

By the abrasion resistance, you can judge the duration of the service life of materials. During abrasion, the mass of tissues gradually decreases as a result of splitting, breaking off and falling out of the ends of fibers and elementary threads from the tissues.

During wet-heat treatments and insolation, the products are subjected to short – term or long-term physical, mechanical and chemical effects. Structural changes in the fibers can be confirmed by measuring the viscosity of the copper-ammonia solution.
