Abstract. This article examines eco-friendly design as a trend in the contemporary fashion industry that has minimal negative impact on the environment. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that maintaining ecological balance remains a highly sought-after topic in contemporary discourse, and in the face of increasing anthropogenic pressure, it is particularly significant, as it extends not only to natural systems but also to public health, the economy, and planetary security. The observed steady growth in consumer interest in clothing made from natural, environmentally friendly materials creates favorable conditions for expanding the production of fashionable clothing made from linen, silk, and cotton-fabrics that ensure the eco-friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and ergonomics of the final product. In this study, the authors present a scientific review of modern approaches, methods, and concepts for developing public environmental awareness through eco-friendly design, shaping a new framework of individual needs in interaction with the environment through safe design products. The article defines the key principles (use of natural materials, eco-friendly fabric processing and dyeing methods, durability of clothing, and conscious consumption) and development vectors for eco-friendly costume design in the contemporary fashion space. The researchers analyze examples of domestic and international design practices that address the challenges of greening costume design through the use of eco-friendly clothing construction, eco-style, and recycled materials; the introduction of a new consumer ethic; and an appeal to elements of traditional ethnic culture. Based on the analysis and experience of applying eco-design principles in the training of future costume designers, the authors conclude that the conceptual foundations of eco-friendly design in costume design enable contemporary designers to offer innovative eco-friendly solutions and design collections with sustainable production principles in mind. The study concludes that eco-friendly design, integrated with contemporary ethics, is evolving from a fashion trend into a tool for education and the development of an environmental culture, facilitating the creation of innovative, socially responsible projects that meet the challenges of the modern era.
