Abstract. The article studies the creative heritage of the artist Nina Zhaba, which is a documentary source with which researchers can study the architecture, interior, traditional costume and way of life of one of the indigenous peoples of Crimea at the beginning of the 20th century — the Crimean Tatars living in Bakhchisaray during the period under review. The main elements of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing are identified, and characteristic hats, shoes and jewelry are described. The details of the costume and their significance for solving the artistic images of the characters depicted in a series of watercolor works by Nina Zhab are revealed. The study traces the relationship between the memories of travelers, ethnographers and researchers who visited Crimea in the 18th–19th centuries and described in their works of the period under study the traditional costume of the Crimean Tatars living in Bakhchisarai and the surrounding area and the display of the clothing of the Crimeans in a series of watercolors by the artist. The article indicates that the author’s original works help to identify the characteristics of authentic textiles, jewelry, hats and shoes of the subethnic group of mountain-coastal Tatars. The work outlines the main coloristic and compositional techniques used by Nina Zhaba to create artistic images of the inhabitants of Bakhchisarai at the beginning of the 19–20th century.
