Abstract. Historically, clothing serves not only utilitarian functions, protecting the human body from external environmental factors; it also reflects psychological and physiological factors in a person and facilitates social interaction among people. A demand is emerging for original, diverse clothing that should meet the ever‑growing demand of consumers. In the field of clothing design, aesthetic qualities, visual appeal, and individuality become priorities. A mock‑up method of form‑generation can serve as a means of achieving aesthetic goals. This method enables both the realization of designers’ creative ideas and the search for new forms, as well as the process of technological preparation of models for mass or serial production. The use of the mock‑up method gives designers the opportunity to study and apply the plastic properties of materials, ensure a high‑quality fit on the figure, and identify optimal technological techniques. The aim of this study is to substantiate the relevance of the mock‑up method of costume shaping in modern conditions. As part of the study, domestic and foreign current publications and modern literary sources on the topic of costume shaping and the use of the mock‑up method in clothing design were examined. The study yielded data on the significance of this method in the development of innovative costume forms and its application in industrial production. Special attention is paid to the importance of studying this method by future designers in order to enhance their creative potential. Factors that influence the mock‑up process within a certain time period have also been identified, such as the level of the scientific, technical, and socio‑economic state of society, which make it possible to predict and develop the methodology of costume form‑making using the mock‑up method.
